SUBJECT: Parade Request – Oasis Shriners (June 6, 2009)

Attached please find a request from the Oasis Shriners to hold their Spring Ceremonial Parade in Blowing Rock at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

The parade, promoting Shriners Hospitals for Children, will consist of 40 units, up to 200 participants and will last approximately one hour. The proposed route and line-up (see attached map) are identical to the one utilized during the July 4^th parade.

Letters of support for the request from both the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority and the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce are enclosed for your information.

The Town will be added as an additional insured on the Oasis Shriners general liability insurance policy. The assistance needed from town staff for the event is expected to be minimal and any expenses incurred by the town could be reimbursed by the TDA.

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a one-of-a-kind international health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs.

Children up to the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered environment at no charge – regardless of financial need.
